Description

Web Engineer configures and supports the Web service & Application server environments for development, Q/A, model, production, and disaster recovery. Responsibilities include administration and configuration for the deployment of home grown application code as well as 3rd party middleware program products. Individual will perform the installation and administration of various middleware technologies including IBM MQ 6.x, WebSphere 6.x and 7.x, WPS 6.x and 7.x, along with IHS and IWS. Experienced with the installation, configuration and customization of the IBM Websphere, Websphere Process Server and MQ program products. Knowledge and experience with the various security components such as websphere security, LDAP and other third party security products. Provides the SSL certificate management and performance monitoring of the respective environment. Responsibilities also include working with the application teams and supporting vendors to engineer solutions that are supportable and maintainable. The engineering of solutions also includes working with the appropriate application teams to determine the infrastructure requirements to meet the business objective.

Individual must have experience in supporting a 7x24 production environment. Also needs a solid understanding of the development lifecycle, process control points to enable separation of duty, application integrity and ability to be compliant with the proper controls.

This individual must have AIX and security experience with LDAP and SSL design, administration, configuration, monitoring and tuning.

Familiarity with of monitoring tools and diagnostics tools on the major OS platforms such as Z/Linux, Linux, and AIX.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will support Business Intelligence initiatives.  Reviews business and data requirements and identifies Cognos components (Framework Manager, Report Studio, Metrics Manager, Data Manager, SDK, etc.) and design details for solution implementation.  Manages and executes the implementation, configuration, administration, and development of the Cognos application.  Provides leadership to other Cognos development and support analysts, and translates business requirements to technical design requirements for effective execution.  Authors reports and provides mentoring to other Cognos report authors, supporting communication and education initiatives for the BI Program.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

• Work with business analysts, end users, and data architects to understand and define the information delivery requirements and supporting structure for the Cognos application. 
• Supply prototypes of proposed Cognos solutions to end users for review and approval. 
• Design accurate and user-friendly presentation of enterprise data through Cognos
• Framework Manager packages for access by business users. 
• Identify additional Cognos components (Metrics Manager, Analysis Studio, SDK, etc.) and design requirements to support effective information delivery across the enterprise. 
• Lead the technical support and development efforts for the Cognos toolset, ensuring that defined processes are followed, and that assigned deliverables meet expected timelines.  Manage the Cognos application environments, including capacity planning, tuning, administration, security, etc. 
• Assist in test planning, definition of test conditions, and obtaining test data. 
• Create and manage project plans for application upgrades and technical infrastructure changes or expansion; manage and execute technical efforts to implement these plans. 
• Act as a coach to business analysts with complex reporting requirements, assisting in design and/or troubleshooting efforts. 
• Support and execute education and communication efforts as a collaborative BI Team effort, with specific individual focus on the Cognos toolset. 
• Manage the support desk relationship and status of open support issues with the software vendor. 
• Identify and communicate with other areas involved in the BI process all necessary aspects that may affect project deliverables. 
• Participate in quality management reviews.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 2 years experience with Cognos, including Framework Manager, Query Studio, Report Studio, Metrics Manager, Data Manager, Access Manager, and/or SDK strongly required.
• Experience with Cognos 8 toolset strongly preferred. 
• Must have broad understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and enterprise reporting capabilities.  
• Strong analytical and communication skills are required. 
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent field of study is required.
• Position requires 4-6 years of experience with progressively increased levels of IT experience.
• Must have demonstrated the ability to work as a member of an enterprise team.  Experience with and understanding of IT Change Management processes. 
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical design specifications, and effectively execute to those specifications and/or manage the execution of those specifications. 
• Passion for enabling change is desired. 
• Ability to be an effective listener.

• Resolves issues proactively that arise during project implementations or during operational assignments

• Provides additional operational support as required

• Project management including implementation

• Maintain, support and track network issues

• Monitor performance in including reporting

• Conduct network analysis

• Routing and Switching

o LAN and WAN interfaces and a variety of routers and switches

o Networking technologies and protocols related to global network operations

• Network Security

o Security protocols and components such as VPN solutions and security features

o Configuring complex, end-to-end secure networks, troubleshooting integrated environments, and understanding common attacks and mitigation techniques

• Voice

o Building and configuring complex end-to-end telephony networks, as well as troubleshooting and resolving VoIP related problems.

 

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field of study or equivalent work experience.

• CCIE and/or CCNA Certification

• Experience in telecommunications business a plus

• Insurance experience a plus
